Story Writing

This week Year 1 have been working extremely hard in literacy. We have created our own versions of the story Mr Gumpy’s Outing and have published them into books to take home and read to our friends and family.

Does class 5JG/GC have the X Factor?

In science we are learning about human body. Yesterday we learnt about Leonardo de Vinci’s ‘Vitruvian Man’. We wondered if we were the next ‘Vitruvian Man’.

So we measured each other to see if our arm span was the same measurement as our height. IMG_0127

We also measured the length of the bottom of our palm to the tip of our longest finger, to see if it was a tenth of our height.

Most of us represented the pattern of the ‘Vitruvian Man’ – especially Mrs Sweeney!

Year 1 Visit to Warriner Farm

As part of our Animals topic this term, Year 1 visited the working farm at Warriner School on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th January.

We had a brilliant day squelching around in the mud, visiting all the different animals and learning more about the different species we farm.

Whilst at the farm we had the opportunity to collect eggs from the chickens, look at a variety of farm machinery and explore the grounds of the farm.  We saw goats, sheep, donkeys, chickens, cows, a bull, pigs and geese!

First we visited the cows to feed them their breakfast and we got to meet some very cute and energetic piglets!

Then we collected some eggs and listened to Sooty the donkey making lots of noise!

We loved stroking Shaun the Sheep, he was very tame and very soft!

Finally we loved walking through the deep puddles and using the welly wash!

It was a brilliant day had by all!

Little Red Riding Hood

Year 2 have been having great fun this week re-telling the ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ story.  Thinking of actions for key words and dressing up as the characters helps to make to make our story telling much more exciting. Can you guess which part of the story this group are showing?

This group are using Molly’s story map to follow the story. They performed to the whole class. Clear actions and great expression! Well Done Molly, Alex, George and Bradley!

Using the iPads

1AD  have enjoyed testing out the iPads during our ICT lesson this week. We have learnt what all the buttons on the iPad are used for and how to access a range of fun educational apps.

It has also given us a good opportunity to work collaboratively with others and turn take.

Call the Vet!

Vet's in action!

This term Year 1 are learning all about animals in our Science lessons. This includes classifying animals, learning about different animals’s habitats and diets and also how to care for different animals.

We have turned our role play corner into a Vetinary’s Surgery and have loved making all our toys from home feel better this week.  We have had a variety of injuries including broken legs, sore wings and bad colds!

Story telling in Year 1

1AD have kicked the new year off with some brilliant story telling of our new literacy text ‘Mr Gumpys Outing.’

We began by reading the story and talking about our favourite parts. We also discussed the story language and all the fun characters.

We then story stepped the book, adding fun and memorable actions. We finished our week by story telling in partners to see how well we had learnt the story! It was great fun.

Next week we will be drawing our own story maps of ‘Mr Gumpy’s Outing’ and of course, enjoying our trip to Warriner Farm for our very own exciting outing. Story telling in 1AD
